low toxin holiday gift guide (2)

Christmas is a favorite time of year in our house, just like I’m sure it is in your home as well.  We love getting into the spirit of the season and doing extra special seasonal things like baking and decorating.  And while my kids love the gifts part,in past years, I’ve not been the most thrilled that the season involves gifts.  I would hunt through gift guide after gift guide trying to find last minute ideas for teachers or a friend who I accidentally missed in my shopping.  It was never a peaceful and good-feeling end to the season.

What I have found is that being prepared, and doing thoughtful shopping and purchasing really helps me keep my peace during the whole Holiday.  I still need a little help now and then finding a gift idea, but I now have a handful of stores and online shops that I trust for not only unique gift ideas, but gift ideas that are low toxin.

thoughtful christmas gift ideas

I think this is especially true of gifts we give to our kids.  I obviously don’t have a ton of control over what other people gift my children, and so I make a very conscious effort to look for practical, low toxin items for their Christmas gifts from us.  In the past we’ve done a gift they want, a gift they need, a gift they wear and a gift they read.  We’ve talked about instead giving them an experience gift like a family trip to explore a new area instead, which may happen down the road.

I truly love holiday gift guide gifts that aren’t things.  There’s nothing better than an experience you can give to your kids instead of more stuff.  But the same is true for adults – you just have to know who you’re shopping for.   I’m excited to share with you my gift and “thingless” gift ideas in this year’s Holiday Gift Guide.

NakedPoppy:  I love throwing in my favorite lipgloss or mascara for my girlfriend’s gifts.  I love getting these types of things because it’s a fun way to try a new product and I feel like so often I find something new to love.  NakedPoppy also has gift cards available, which is a great way to let someone else find their own clean beauty products.  (Use this link to get an automatic 10% off — plus a free cleanser with your purchase)

Xtrema:  Xtrema’s new bakeware line is one of my favorite gift ideas.  Not only are they low toxin gifts, but they’re also thoughtful and beautifully made.  I love getting bakeware and items for my kitchen, especially when it’s a quality item that is made well.  You can use my code HHOTB for 15% off your purchase with Xtrema, which can be used with their Holiday Sale right now.

MakeMake Organics: Bedding, kids clothing, play mats and essentials — all organic.  It’s a great spot to shop for practical gifts for babies and kids that are organic and toxin free.  I love MakeMake Organic’s line of duvet covers and sheets, which are 100% organic cotton.  I can’t tell you how many times we’ve given my kids sheets for Christmas and just how excited they were.

Dropps Laundry & Kitchen: Dropps is a perfect gift idea for someone who has it all. PLUS, you know I’m SO into giving gifts that aren’t things.
You can gift a subscription to Dropps laundry pods or throw a box in with an outfit or blanket. I’m the queen of practical gifts — and this totally fits the bill.
